Divided We Stand, Rising Above Religious Intolerance
Article VI of the Constitution of the United States declares, '... no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.' Does that test exist today?
John F. Kennedy experienced religious intolerance as he campaigned for the presidency. Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln also fought against the same intolerance in their day. And now we find ourselves in the same situation with the current political and religious issues that face us as a nation. Divided in many ways, we hope to overcome that and stand united as one nation.
Divided We Stand is a journey into the muddled world of politics and religion. We must explore these worlds so we may become more tolerant of different faiths, recognizing that if we are not free to worship according to the dictates of our own conscience in America, where does that freedom exist? If, as Americans, we are to Stand United, we must indeed all take this journey.
